Manchester United v Fulham: FA Cup quarter-final – live | FA Cup
Key events
7 minutes In fact, Rashford now plays on the right, with Sancho on the left. Bit strange. I’m sure they started the other way.
5 minutes It was a very good start from Fulham, aggressive and determined. United barely crossed the halfway line.
3 minutes Fulham unsuccessfully appealed for a penalty when Mitrovic, in the air and about to head the ball towards goal, was cleared away by Shaw. We didn’t see a replay but apparently VAR isn’t getting involved. My instinct is that the contact was not strong enough for a penalty.
3 minutes Fulham regain possession and Diop, still on top of the corner, curls a header which is pushed onto Gea’s coaster. A comfortable backup.
2 minutes Pereira’s dangerous cross to Mitrovic is pushed back by McTominay. Pereira takes the corner, and Harry Maguire’s bountiful noggin takes care of it.
1 minute Tacticswatch: United started with Bruno Fernandes as No.10 and Jadon Sancho on the right. Everything else is as expected.
1 minute Peeppeep! Once-United’s Andreas Pereira is getting things done. Fulham are kicking from right to left as we watch.
The winners of today’s game will face Brighton in the semi-finals, and the winners of this match will face Manchester City in the final.
“As the match is on what used to be called terrestrial television I can watch Fulham hopefully suffer an honorable defeat,” said Richard Hirst. “Equally relevantly, I can test whether MBM coverage is as accurate and unbiased as I assume – no pressure!”
Who told you that fucking lie?

The draw for the semi-finals is about to take place, followed by the final draw. Join Daniel Harris to find out who the winner of today’s match will play at Wembley next month.
“Welcome Rob,” said Jeff Sax. “Will we see the Man Utd of the Liverpool game or a winning United?”
Jeffrey, if I knew that, I’d be in a beer garden, on a betting app.
With Raphaël Varane injured, Harry Maguire leaves today. And like just about every player at Old Trafford, he improved under Erik ten Hag.
While we’re talking about GrimsbyI had a lot of fun this week researching their runs to the FA Cup semi-finals in 1936 and 1939. If you like wacky details from the distant past, you’ll enjoy this.
I also heard of Tom Zerboni, a dynamic teenage left-back who is the nephew of an old friend from college. When he debuts in England (or Italy), I hope to get an exclusive interview.
The composition of the semi-final
The winners of this match will join Manchester City, Sheffield United and Brighton in the last four. Brighton are heading to victory over Grimsby at the Amex, where the very impressive Evan Ferguson has scored twice.

Preamble

Besides being the least convincing opening paragraph in the history of sports journalism, this is Manchester United’s schedule between the World Cup and the next international break (sic): 25 games in 88 days, without midweek off and something at stake every time. It’s not that they sit at the top of the unofficial Premier League fatigue chart.
Today’s game is the second of three quarter-finals for United, a nice bonus in Erik ten Hag’s debut season but a potential distraction from the main objective of finishing fourth. They are too far to withdraw now and will be desperate to beat Fulham at Old Trafford today.
United’s home form this season is superb – P25 W20 D3 L2 – but it doesn’t look like a banker: Fulham have troubled every major team away from home this season and are quietly enjoying their best season for at least a decade. Reaching a first FA Cup semi-final since 2002 would be a happy blah blah cliche.
