Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez receives a hero’s welcome and guard of honor as fans unfurl a controversial banner over the Manchester United star in tribute to his nickname ‘The Butcher’

World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez received a hero’s welcome ahead of Manchester United’s win over Bournemouth.

The Argentina centre-back was left out of the starting line-up but was named on the bench for the clash which ended in a 3-0 win for the Red Devils.

As he walked to the pitch, Martinez received a standing ovation from Old Trafford supporters, as well as his United team-mates who cheered him on as he walked onto the pitch.

Forming a guard of honour, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw could be seen smiling as they congratulated their teammate on his achievement.

Martinez has also been cheered on by United fans, who have really enjoyed the defender since joining the club from Ajax in the summer.

Fans waved their controversial banner which pays tribute to the centre-back, featuring a meat cleaver in the center of an Argentinian flag, a tribute to his nickname ‘The Butcher’.

The flag is not supposed to be shown at Old Trafford, likely due to the weapon shown, but with their star celebrating his World Cup success, it looks like an exception has been made.

Manchester United found themselves 1-0 up at half-time thanks to Casemiro’s goal, while Luke Shaw added his second early in the second half.

Rashford wrapped up a 3-0 win for United, while Martinez managed to secure some playing time to really announce himself back with the Red Devils ahead of a crucial few weeks.
