Manchester United on course for worst Premier League result in history as damning statistics for Erik ten Hag emerge

Erik ten Hag reached a low point in his Manchester United tenure on Monday night as his side were beaten 4-0 by Crystal Palace.

Now the Red Devils are on course for their worst result in the Premier League.

Ten Hag’s future is in serious doubt following the mutilation at Selhurst Park and he could set several unwanted records.

The Red Devils are currently eighth in the Premier League and have never finished lower than seventh before.

United finished seventh in the 2013-14 campaign – their first after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson – with 64 points, but they can no longer reach that tally and are two points behind sixth-placed Newcastle with three matches remaining.

The defeat against Palace was the 13th of the season, the most ever in a Premier League campaign.

It was the third time United had lost by four away goals since the start of last season, with only Nottingham Forest (five) losing more.

United have now conceded 81 goals in all competitions, a record since the 1976/77 seasons (also 81).

They have also not finished a season with a negative goal difference since the 1989/90 season, with the Red Devils currently sitting at -3.

Asked if he thought he was the right person to restore United’s fortunes, Ten Hag told talkSPORT: “I don’t think about it.

“I have to prepare the team, we have huge problems so if I worry about my future… it’s not for me, it’s for the team and the club.

“You see, the fans support us so they deserve a team that has energy.”

He later told Sky Sports: “I’m going to keep fighting. I prepared the team in the best way possible. It wasn’t good enough, I have to take responsibility for that but I’m going to find something. energy and prepare them for the match on Sunday (against Arsenal).

“It’s clear, it’s obvious, it’s not efficient. We didn’t act as we wanted and it’s not good enough. We are very disappointed.

“Our fans were behind us and we should have kept fighting like they did.

“There are always reasons, everyone sees our backline. We have huge problems. At the end of the day we have to face them and we should have done better.”

The Red Devils face Arsenal on Sunday before playing Newcastle and Brighton to finish their Premier League season.

Ten Hag still have the chance to win the FA Cup, with Man City as their opponents again on May 25.
