The Manchester City women’s team has dismissed head coach Gareth Taylor, the club announced on Monday, with the team that languishes fourth in the female Super League.
“Manchester City is proud to compete at the top of the WSL and its exceptional qualification history for European competition,” said City Women Director Charlotte O’Neill in a statement.
“Unfortunately, the results this season have so far not reached this high level.
“With six WSL campaign games to play, we think that a change of management will breathe new life into our offer to ensure the qualification for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.”
The former female coach of the city, Nick Cushing, will replace Taylor on a provisional basis. City Play play on Saturday when they come up against Chelsea in the League Cup final.
Taylor, 52, has trained the city since 2020 and led the team to the FA Cup and the Ligue Cup victories in 2020 and 2022 respectively. City, however, Chelsea trails by 12 points in the WSL table after 16 games.
