Man who locked himself in bedroom with child arrested after Carlsbad SWAT standoof

A standoff that began after a man barricaded himself in a Carlsbad home with a child ended peacefully on Saturday when the suspect turned himself in, police said.
Just before 7 a.m. on Saturday, officers attended a home in Clearwater Street near Sandside Court to check on a man who allegedly locked himself in a bedroom with his 2-year-old child, police Lt. Darbie Ernst said of Carlsbad. The man refused to communicate or leave the room.
Police believed the man had a gun, and a SWAT team and crisis negotiators were summoned to the home.
After about four hours, the man got out and was arrested without incident, Ernst said. The child was found unharmed.
A firearm was found inside the residence, but it was not used in the incident, police said.
Ernst said the man was arrested on multiple counts, including making criminal threats, delaying an officer and having an unregistered firearm.
