Man United’s Casemiro slams ‘disrespectful’ criticism of his performances – as Brazilian midfielder claims he was ‘one of the best signings’ in the league last season

Manchester United’s Casemiro has hit back at “disrespectful” criticism of his performances this season.

The Brazilian midfielder has been criticized in recent weeks after struggling for the Red Devils – with his performance against Arsenal coming under particular scrutiny.

Jamie Carragher also recently asked him to “call it a day” and move to Saudi Arabia or MLS after his disappointing performance against Crystal Palace.

However, the former Real Madrid star clearly has a different view on things as he responded to the criticism during a recent interview with Sky Sports.

The Brazilian said: “I was considered one of the best signings in the Premier League last season, and now I’m worthless?”

The Man United midfielder has branded criticism of his performances ‘disrespectful’.

The Brazilian has endured a difficult few weeks after being named the team’s central defender.

“The criticism is disrespectful. So when there’s a lack of respect, it’s worrying, and I don’t have to respect that either.”

Against Palace, Erik ten Hag’s men suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as Casemiro replaced the centre-back for a Man United hit.

However, his display at the back left a lot to be desired and Sky Sports pundit Carragher lamented the Brazilian’s performance.

“I said at half-time that he (Ten Hag) had to bring Casemiro off,” Carragher said.

“I know he has kids on the bench, but I think Casemiro, very serious, should know tonight as an experienced player that he only has three games left at the highest level. The next two games championship and the cup final (FA).

“And he should be thinking, ‘I have to go to MLS or Saudi Arabia.’ I’m very serious. He’s getting older, people around him have to tell him that it has to stop.

“We are watching one of the greatest of modern times playing in one of the best midfielders we have seen who has dominated Europe.

Casemiro came under scrutiny for his performance in United’s defeat to Crystal Palace.

“Holding him, (Toni) Kroos on one side (Luka) Modric on the other was one of the best midfielders. Could easily take on the Barcelona midfielder we all loved (with) (Sergio) Busquets , Xavi and (Andres) Iniesta.

“He was absolutely brilliant. I don’t even come close to what this man has accomplished. Champions Leagues, playing for Brazil, playing for Real Madrid.

“But I always remember something when I retired myself, there was a saying I always remember as a footballer, ‘leave football before football leaves you’.

“Football has left him at this next level, he needs to stop this level of football and move on.”
