Manchester United’s incredible victory against Lyon Thursday evening reminded us of everything that would be madness to let Kobbie Mainoo leaving Old Trafford.
For all those who had forgotten his talents, his impact for more reinforced what we have seen so often last season and for England at euros: a super talented midfielder, which is mature, calm and can manage on the biggest scene of the biggest games.
Any player who is able to deal with this pressure at such a young age is a great asset for Ruben Amorim.
I am surprised that he did not present more for United this season, especially with their problems in the midfield, although I appreciate that he was injured. I know that Murim thinks that there have been weaknesses in his defensive work in certain matches, but it is normal for a young midfielder in the Premier League who adapts to playing different positions in the United System.
When I started in Liverpool, I had Gary McAlister and Didi Hamann next to me to talk to me through games. Without their help, there would have been many games in which I seem naive in my defensive work.
The amorim system stifled it. Playing in the central midfielder in a 3-4-3 is difficult. You must be really disciplined and cover a lot of ground. It is clear that he does not trust him as much as Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte. He worked with Ugarte at Sporting Lisbon, so knows that he understands what he wants from his fields in the field.

It was a reminder of what a super talented midfielder, mature and calm Mainoo is his day

There has been speculation on the departure of Mainoo left united, but Ruben Amorim must keep it
But I do not see what Murim sees with regard to Mainoo. I think Mainoo is more than capable of playing this defensive role, he just needs help, leadership and advice around him.
I also don’t think that he should be a pigeon by being a midfielder style because there is so much variation in his game.
I understand that rumors around him and Alejandro Garnacho need to be sold for PSR reasons, but the equation is simple: is it united with an abundance of talented fields? No.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen arrive at the end of their career. They let Scott MCTOMINAY leave. It is exactly the type of player that United will seek to sign if they did not already have it.
Even if they have sold it to the balance sheet, they will have to spend just as much, if not more, to replace your talent.
Mainoo and Garnacho are two talented and hungry players capable of having a big impact for United in the next five years or more, whether under Amorim or any other manager.
If I was amorim, I would speak to Mainoo, I would speak to my patterns and I assured myself that he stayed. I would always be shocked to see him go in summer.
His performance the other evening will have caused a lot of conversations about the reasons why he did not play.
I would not be surprised to see Maino to start the semi-final and many more games as the season ends because his talent is there for everyone.
