Man United to renovate Carrington training ground this summer as Sir Dave Brailsford plans new warm-up area, reconfigured player parking and winter garden

Manchester United are to carry out a major overhaul at Carrington this summer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team look to transform the club’s fortunes.

Mail Sport understands substantial work is planned at the training ground, with the fingerprints of sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford’s marginal gains evident.

At the center of the multi-million pound redevelopment will be a new “pre-activation and player performance” area.

United have been struggling terribly with injuries for some time and the hope is that the new warm-up area will help reduce the chances of players suffering costly knocks.

The plans will also see a huge increase in the amount of natural light coming into the building through a series of giant new windows around the exterior, as well as more modern, open office spaces as United’s new leadership attempts to prepare for a return to high.

With the focus on providing an optimal environment for the first team, the club’s laundry will be relocated to a new extension in a neighboring building to ensure that the attention within the walls is solely devoted to football .

Although officials have remained tight-lipped about costs, the project’s budget is estimated to run into the millions, with Ratcliffe and his team taking advantage of the offseason to accelerate the change.

Pre-activation usually involves a series of exercises, often with the use of resistance bands and foam rollers. The goal is to increase blood flow to the muscles through activities such as jumping rope and jogging.

Players will also participate in dynamic mobility exercises, such as lunges, which open up areas such as the knees and hips to facilitate rotation and perform a series of stretching routines. A specialized space could well play a key role in everyday life.

The existing players’ parking lot will be reconfigured to free up space for the area, one of several improvements that officials say will help create an “elite environment that fosters elite performance.”

A landscaping project will also take place to protect the area from prying eyes.

The large-scale works also include the construction of a conservatory, which will provide “year-round amenity space” and offer protection from Manchester’s notorious climate. Currently, a series of balconies are used for meetings and gatherings, but are only a realistic option during the warmer months.

Elsewhere, United wants to install an additional 247 square meters of office space on the first floor and a number of additional canopies, while an additional parking area will be provided next to the medical center to allow the use of ambulances in case emergency.

The club have embarked on a hiring spree as they seek to restructure, with Newcastle director of football Dan Ashworth expected to arrive when a deal can be agreed with his club. Jason Wilcox also arrived from Southampton as technical director.

One of the aims of the renovation is to provide more natural light to the building’s ground floor and views of the outside world, with extensions to existing glazing levels creating a more modern feel.

Insiders have revealed that Carrington, which opened under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999, has fallen behind United’s main rivals at elite level and work is aimed at making up that deficit.

Many of the amendments come out of the marginal gains playbook, which Brailsford has used with great success in his previous roles in the cycling world. The belief is that a series of small details will help create an optimal environment that allows athletes, such as United’s players, to flourish.

This season, United have suffered more than 60 separate player injuries, with 24 members of the first-team squad affected at some point.

In previous years the work carried out at Carrington has focused on the club’s academy and women’s teams. Since the arrival of Ratcliffe and Ineos at the start of the year, the focus on supporting the first team has intensified significantly.

After completing the purchase of 25 per cent of the club, they agreed to inject a much-needed £245million into infrastructure improvements.
