A Manchester United transfer target has named the club as a foreign team he would like to play for one day, despite having his advances turned down for two years.

Erik ten Hag’s Man United have struggled in the Premier League this season, and an early exit from the Champions League means there will be high expectations of improvement this summer.

Some attacking options are set to leave Old Trafford this summer, meaning the club could return to previous targets to complete their squad – if they are finally ready to make the jump to the Premier League.

During a TikTok Q&A with the Dutch edition of Men’s Health magazine, Ajax’s Brian Brobbey was asked to name a foreign club he would like to play for.

He replied: “Real Madrid is a big club, just like Arsenal and Manchester United.”

A Man United target has said he will play for the club despite rejecting Erik Ten Hag for years.

Ajax striker Brian Brobbey has been linked with Manchester United since Ten Hag took over.

Brobbey, 22, came through the academy ranks at Ajax and was handed his senior debut by Ten Hag in 2020.

He has been heavily linked with Man United since the Dutchman moved to manage the Red Devils in 2022, and refused a move to Old Trafford that year despite receiving a personal phone call from Ten Hag trying to persuade him.

He was thought to be among the shortlisted candidates the following summer, while in January this year Brobbey played down reports of an imminent move.

At the time, he said: “I have no contact with Erik (ten Hag).

“We used to text via WhatsApp, but I think Erik is busy. I also have a new number.

Arsenal chief Edu included Brobbey on a list of 10 potential strikers for the club in March, alongside Ivan Toney, Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres.

Despite Ajax’s well-documented problems on and off the pitch this season, Brobbey has been a positive for the club, contributing 21 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

Brobbey’s club form earned him his debut for the Dutch national team in October, coming off the bench for the Euro 2024 qualifier against Greece.

Ten Hag’s story of bringing former Ajax players to Man United has met with varying success.

Lisandro Martinez has been superb at the back despite a number of injuries, goalkeeper Andre Onana has been inconsistent and Antony has failed to ignite Old Trafford despite his high price tag.
