Paul Scholes scored a Manchester United ‘star’ Criminal ‘after his inability to play by Rasmus Hojlund during the confrontation of the Red Devils with Real Sociedad.
United sought to push their offer to qualify for the Champions League next season while the direct elimination stages of the Europa League began on Thursday when they faced the Laliga team in the first leg of their last confrontation.
Ruben Amorim’s team is among the favorites to win the competition, but must transform their season a little if they are in the life of the trophy towards the end of the campaign.
Fighting for goals, the first half against Sociedad was difficult for the side outside, although they were likely to open the scoring, perhaps more than when Diogo Dalot ended up in space on the right.
With the chance to cross, the striker Hojlund approached the penalty surface with speed and had lost his marker. He called for a cross, but Dalot rather decided to cut inside when a simple balloon through the goal would probably have trained a tap.
The opportunity took the begging, and Hojlund ended up showing his frustrations with Dalot while the two endured a brief discomfort of embarrassment, and Scholes, speaking like an expert on TNT Sports, did not mince his words.
“It was comfortable for United, half a football half,” said Scholes at the interval. “They should be ahead, Dalot should have put him in the square in Hojlund. They have dangerous players but were not a threat.
“The frustrating thing is that we watched them practice this. For Dalot not to see him, it’s criminal. He has done a good race, you are a straight return, so that any return to world football cannot see that it is criminal.
Karen Carney, for her part, added: “He has the right to be frustrated. When the greats enter positions like Dalot, it must pass it, it is a tap. He does not do it and it is a missed opportunity and he has the right to dig Dalot, he had a lot of criticism.
Robbie Savage, meanwhile, called him “unacceptable” on the comments.
