Manchester United would have set the prospect of a championship goalkeeper to overtake Andre Onana.
The Red Devils identified the goalkeeper of Preston North End Freddie Woodman as their potential man between the sticks.
Woodman, 28, signed Preston permanently in 2022 and was their player of the year in his first season.
Former winner of the 2017 England World Cup under 20, Woodman is also the godson of Gareth Southgate.
