Man suffers shocking fractured penis from rolling while sleeping

This redefined an interrupted sleep schedule.

One unfortunate man had to undergo emergency surgery after fracturing his penis in two places while sleeping – leaving him with an ‘eggplant deformity’.

The unnamed 27-year-old Tunisian patient allegedly rolled over on his erect penis while sleeping, causing “an audible ‘popping’ noise and resulting severe pain” as well as flaccidity. and swelling, the authors wrote in a paper. case study published in International Surgery of Case Reports.

Despite experiencing alarming symptoms, the patient waited 36 hours before going to the hospital.

“Penile fractures, although rare, require urgent surgical intervention due to their potentially serious consequences,” the study authors wrote.

Doctors then observed significant swelling of the penis, a “rightward deviation” and a blood clot at the base.

A characteristic “eggplant deformity” was also present, in which the penis becomes swollen and purple like its eggplant namesake, indicating that it was fractured or broken.

Although the penis is technically boneless, the word “fracture” is used to describe a tear in the penis. tunica albuginea — the tissue that allows the penis to enlarge and become erect.

After administering general anesthesia, surgeons “degloved” the man’s appendix, revealing that he had indeed suffered two fractures measuring 7 millimeters and 10 millimeters respectively.

Doctors have reported that suffering more than one fracture is rare in the medical literature.

Doctors were able to repair the man’s mutilated limb without problem, after which they sutured the lacerations and released him from the hospital.

By the second day, the swelling had reduced considerably while he regained “full erectile function” by the fourth.

Fortunately, the patient suffered no long-term problems with urination or sexual function following the limb flexion debacle.

“During a 12-month follow-up period, the patient reported no complications,” the doctors wrote.

This man’s case is particularly anomalous given that penile fractures are usually the result of deformation of the phallus during vigorous intercourse.

The “reverse cowgirl” position – in which the woman is on top, facing her partner – is said to be the riskiest in this regard, accounting for 50% of penile fractures.
