A man was in critical condition Saturday after he was shot dead by police in the McHenry County suburb of Harvard on Friday night, authorities said.
At around 8 p.m. Friday, McHenry County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 19900 block of Streit Road for a wellness check, officials said.
Upon arrival, deputies said a man came out of the residence with a gun and there was an “armed confrontation”. The deputies discharged their firearms, striking the man.
No lawmakers were injured, officials said.
The man was taken to Mercy Harvard Hospital and then airlifted to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, where officials said he remained in critical condition.
The McHenry County Major Investigations Assistance Team will investigate.
