Man sets himself on fire at New York courthouse

A man set himself on fire Friday in front of the New York courthouse, where the jury in the secret criminal trial of former President Donald Trump was seated.

The unidentified man, whose condition was unknown, was transported to a nearby hospital.

NBC News reported that the man was in an area across from Manhattan Supreme Court that is cordoned off for protesters. Flames from the fire reached 20 feet high.

The man’s motives were unknown.

The last places on the jury were being allocated at the time the fire broke out. Trump was inside the courthouse at the time.

Officials told those in the courtroom — including Trump — that they were free to leave the building, located in lower Manhattan near a federal courthouse, city ​​and the Brooklyn Bridge.

CNBC has requested comment from the New York Police Department.
