Man seriously injured after being hit by roller coaster in restricted area of ​​Ohio theme park – NBC Chicago

A man who apparently entered a restricted area to retrieve his lost keys at an Ohio theme park was seriously injured when he was struck by a steel roller coaster, police and park officials said .

The 38-year-old man appears to have entered a fenced area at Kings Island on Wednesday evening, according to a statement released by the park near Cincinnati. He was found on the ground, injured, but no details on his condition were released. He remained hospitalized.

The man dropped his keys while riding the Banshee, an inverted roller coaster where the train hangs off the track, then entered the restricted area and was struck by the roller coaster, according to Mason police.

According to the park’s website, the Banshee is the longest steel inverted roller coaster in the world and reaches speeds of 68 mph (109 km/h).

The roller coaster has been closed and will remain closed while the investigation continues. No other injuries were reported.

The park is in Mason, about 24 miles northeast of Cincinnati.
