A man who sparked a fire that burnt down the Bar des Inahoots abandoned to Mission Valley on Christmas Day was sentenced to two years of formal probation on Tuesday.
The 47 -year -old man was arrested approximately a week after the fire on December 25, which marked the second fire on Mission Center Road property in two months.
Previously, a fire damaged the building on October 26. The man was only suspected in the Christmas fire and the police announced no arrest as part of the October fire.
While the police said the fire was considered to be “suspect”, the man was not accused of intentionally fixing the fire. Rather, he pleaded guilty to the Superior Court of San Diego to a crime count to illegally provoke a fire from a structure.
Deputy prosecutor Spencer Sharpe said that the man, homeless, smoked inside the building, which had caused the fire.
The man also received a credit for 99 days spent in detention. San Diego’s Superior Court Judge Dwayne Moring said that with the 99 days purged, he can be released from custody to a residential drug treatment program.
