Man repeatedly crashes car into vehicle carrying family of 5 in north Austin: documents

AUSTIN, TXA man crashed his car into another car carrying a family of five before fleeing and crashing into a utility pole north of Austin, according to an arrest affidavit.

On Monday, around 8:15 a.m., AFD and APD officers responded to a vehicle collision at 9515 Burnet Road.

The caller said the driver of a white Honda hit the back of a blue Honda. The driver of the white Honda continued to aggressively ram the blue Honda before driving off, crashing into a utility pole at the end of the street.

An officer saw the driver, identified as Carl Pearson, 34, walking away from the pole he had just collided with. The officer got out of his vehicle and told Pearson to stop walking away. He turned around, saw the officer, turned around and continued to quickly walk away from her.

The officer deployed a Taser on Pearson after he failed to comply with his commands, which proved ineffective. Pearson then threw his phone on the ground, walked towards the officer and lay down on the ground.

Pearson refused to comply with the officer’s orders to turn onto his stomach.

Another officer arrived on the scene and the two officers together managed to turn Pearson onto his stomach and restrain him with handcuffs.

A witness told police he saw Pearson’s car collide with the blue Honda. The witness said Pearson got out of his car and began yelling and screaming at the driver of the blue Honda before getting back into his car and crashing into the blue Honda. The witness said it felt like Pearson wanted to push the blue Honda off the road.

The witness said Pearson nearly hit a school bus as it was leaving.

A mother and her four children were in the blue Honda. All five passengers reported injuries.

Pearson was charged with accident resulting in injury and escape. He was booked into the Travis County Jail.
