A man drowned at Laguna Lake Park in Fullerton on Saturday, May 4, after trying to swim across the fishing lake, officials said.
Around 6:57 p.m., Fullerton police and firefighters responded to a possible drowning after a man was seen entering the lake and attempting to swim across it, but did not resurface. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team located the man at the south end of the lake, in the area of Lakeview and Clarion Drive. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Fullerton Police Officer Kristy Wells said.
No foul play is suspected and the identity of the man has not yet been released by the coroner.
The 7-acre lake has a shallow perimeter but extends about 9 to 10 feet deep in the middle. Wading is prohibited and several signs are posted in the area informing visitors that swimming is prohibited, Wells said.
