Police declared a major incident as a “bad batch” of heroin killed a man and hospitalized nine others, while four people were taken into custody “concerned about the supply of drugs”.
At around 5pm on Friday, Devon and Cornwall Police became aware of what was believed to be an “unusually strong batch of heroin” circulating in the area.
Nine people suspected of using heroin were hospitalized and one man unfortunately died.

They said: “We faced a public health incident with our partners. 9 victims across 3 locations in the North Devon area required emergency medical treatment.

They asked people to check if they were known drug users and said, “do not take any controlled substances.”

Devon and Cornwall Police released a statement which said: “While there are no wider concerns for the North Devon community, we advise people who use drugs to exercise extreme caution as there is a major concern for well-being.
“If any member of the community or drug user is concerned, we ask them to call 999 for appropriate advice and support.”
