Manchester City fear Bunny Shaw will miss the remainder of the Women’s Super League title race amid fears she may have broken her foot in the 5-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.

The club are yet to confirm the reports from Mail Sport, but we understand Shaw, who was seen on crutches and wearing a protective boot after the match, did more damage than initially feared .

The striker went down in the final seconds of the first half and was helped off the field by City’s medical team and replaced by Chloe Kelly.

The 27-year-old is City’s top scorer with 21 goals in 18 games and will represent a huge defeat to Gareth Taylor’s side in the final three games of the season.

City currently top the WSL, three points ahead of Chelsea, who have a game in hand, and Shaw’s absence will put a huge damper on their title quest.

Bunny Shaw could miss the rest of the season with a possible broken foot suffered against West Ham after scoring twice in the opening 25 minutes.

The Jamaica international has been in sensational form this season with 21 goals in 18 games.

City boss Gareth Taylor was initially optimistic about Shaw’s injury after the match.

“We decided not to take any chances, it was a game of chance whether she was going to get back on the field,” Taylor said.

“We will have a little more in-depth assessment tomorrow. She’s on crutches, which sounds bad, but most players end up being offloaded in this situation.

“We’ll just have to evaluate it.” If it’s more serious than expected, we’ll take care of it.

City don’t have many No.9 options to replace Shaw. Lauren Hemp is capable of playing this role while Chloe Kelly is another option, but both players’ natural positions are on the wing.

Mary Fowler is another option along with Poppy Pritchard, who was signed in January.

City face Bristol City, Arsenal and Aston Villa in their final three matches of the season.
