The Premier League would be faced with an invoice of more than 20 million pounds sterling due to the loss of the first part of its dispute with Manchester City for the sponsorship rules.
In February, the Premier League champions won a huge victory in the long battle with the Premier League over financial rules.
A court ruled that the sponsorship rules applied by the League between 2021 and 2024 – were brought after the Saudi control of Newcastle to ensure that the trade agreements with companies related to the property of the clubs were at a fair market value – were “ null and inapplicable ”.
Mail Sport reported on the day of the verdict that the city had to seek the 10 million pounds sterling that they spent in legal costs of the Premier League. Although the first flight should pay its own costs of 10 million pounds sterling – which they could have claimed from the city themselves if they had succeeded.
Now the Times reports that City will indeed make a request for the Premier League to pay the club’s legal bills.
It then happens that Man City launches an assault against the legality of the subsequent amendments of the Premier League to the rules of sponsorship.

Despite numerous objections of the city, clubs voted from 16 to 4 to support the Premier League to modify rather than rewrite the rules in November.
The City affair says that the modified regulations continue to “discriminate” and highlight a multitude of rivals, including Arsenal, which, according to them, enjoy an unjust advantage.
The same panel that reassured itself with City on their initial complaint will stabilize again on the last dispute. If City succeeds a second time, it would put the financial rules of the Premier League in disarray and again see clubs hit with a legal bill.
The case is distinct from the 130 accusations against City by the Ligue for alleged violation of financial rules. However, City uses the same legal team to represent them.
