Man charged with murder after allegedly stabbing woman in Holyoke

Jason Chapdelaine allegedly fatally stabbed the woman, then was found unconscious at the scene due to self-inflicted wounds, officials said.

A man was arrested Sunday in connection with the stabbing death of a woman in Holyoke, officials said.

Jason Chapdelaine, 52, of Springfield, was arrested Sunday and charged with murder after allegedly fatally stabbing a woman, Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said in a statement.

Holyoke police responded to the 200 block of South Water Street for a report of suspicious activity around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Gulluni’s office said.

At the scene, police found a woman suffering from stab wounds and Chapdelaine unconscious due to self-inflicted injuries, according to the press release. The woman died from her injuries, authorities said.

After receiving help, Chapdelaine was taken into police custody. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Holyoke District Court.

An investigation into the incident by the Holyoke Police Department, State Police and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office is ongoing.
