OAKLAND – Police here arrested a suspect in a homicide in 2023, where the 22 -year -old victim was allegedly shot in front of his 3 -month -old son.
Last December, prosecutors charged Matthew John, 21, of having murdered his knowledge, Joshua Hopkins, 22, February 22, 2023. But John was arrested until February 6 and was now detained in Santa Rita Prison in Dublin without surety, according to the files.
Hopkins was shot dead on the 2200 block of Seminary Avenue, in an apartment on the second floor. He argued with his killer just before the shooting, then stumbled outside and collapsed on the sidewalk, where he was then declared dead, the authorities said.
Police said at the time that Hopkins and his killer may have visited Hopkin’s ex-girlfriend, who lived in the region. An online fundraising for Hopkins says that his 3 -month -old son was present and saw the shooting.
Hopkins was killed only a few weeks after John was charged – as well as two others – to have organized a jewelry store in Berkeley and steal $ 98,000 in the violent takeover flight. He made an appearance before the court scheduled for February 6, but the exact location of his arrest is unknown.
In the flight affair, the police said that three men targeted the 14 karats jewelry store on the 2900 block from College avenue in Berkeley on January 24, 2023. A man pointed out a weapon on the owner while two others have broken the cases and seized jewelry. They fled in an Audi after the flight.
During the investigation, detectives found evidence that John and Hopkins knew. More specifically, they found an Instagram photo taken in Oakland where the two men, and others, posed with firearms, according to the judicial archives.
John has not yet pleaded, according to the judicial archives.
