Mallory Swanson Continues Brilliant Scoring Against Germany – NBC Chicago

Mallory Swanson got off to a blistering start at the Olympics with two goals in Team USA’s first group game, and she picked up where she left off Sunday against Germany.

Swanson, a standout for the NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars, helped turn Germany’s momentum around in the pivotal match by scoring a rebound in the first half to give Team USA a 2-1 lead.

Sophia Smith, who scored the first goal of the game for the United States, repelled a strong attack high in the box and sent a superb shot past German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger. She managed to deflect the ball, but Swanson got inside and scored the rebound to give the U.S. team the lead again.

Swanson scored twice in the United States’ opening match against Zambia, netting twice in the span of just one minute. She’s competing in her third Olympics and looking to make a big statement after missing the 2023 World Cup due to injury, and she’s doing just that in just two games.
