Islam Makhachev did not waste time before commenting on the results of the main UFC 315 event between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena.
For months, the Makhachev team has been waiting since May 10, which would leave Canada with the Welter weight title around its size. If Muhammad kept the belt, Makhachev would remain a light weight and potentially face the former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria. If Della Maddalena won, Islam plans to go up.
It was Jack Della Maddalena who ended up winning, putting a precision granular masterclass to defeat Belal Muhammad via a unanimous decision with scores 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46 (look at the strengths here). During his post-victory interview with Daniel Cormier, Della Maddalena was asked about the fight against Makhachev.
“It’s a great challenge,” said Jack. “I’m going to get it back for Volk.”
Makhachev declared his intention to go right for the new champion of 170 pounds. “It’s time to become a double inshallah champion,” he tweeted. “Let’s go.”
He also sent a message to his friend and training partner Belal Muhammad. “Famper,” he wrote by scoring Muhammad.
With the ambitions with double champion of Makhachev by holding the light division and the main event of the UFC 317, we expect the CEO of the UFC, Dana White, moves quickly. If the plans are not announced this evening in Montreal at the post-combat press conference of the UFC 315, we expect them to be confirmed in the coming days.
With Makhachev saying that he will not drop the 155 pound belt, anything is possible. Keep it locked on MMA Mania for all updates as this story develops.
