Major telecommunications outage affecting Americans traveling abroad

At the height of the holiday season, many Americans abroad are unable to join loved ones back home.

On Thursday, several major U.S. telecommunications providers reported that their customers traveling abroad were experiencing connectivity issues due to problems with a third-party network partner.

AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have all confirmed that some users traveling abroad are experiencing difficulty using roaming services.

A person familiar told Reuters that telecommunications company Syniverse, which works with international operators to support roaming, was the third-party provider experiencing the problem.
