The war poses a dilemma for Simion. As a nationalist who aligns with Maga to leave Ukraine to manage for himself, he is much less lively than Trump to align himself publicly with Russia. Indeed, Simion guides as the candidate who can keep the United States committed to park troops in Romania.
“What we want, as a country affected by German and Russian imperialism in history, is that this peace formula is delivered with new security guarantees for the next 30 to 50 years so that Russia cannot do what it has done, violating all international treaties,” said Simion.
While competitors in last year elections accused him of wanting to withdraw Romania from the EU, Simion insisted that his country wanted to remain a member, but that the block should focus solely on the economy and not interfere in culture and defense.
Simion also pointed out that he wanted Romania to remain at NATO, led by the United States
“I do not think that a defense force led by France and Great Britain can be an alternative to the security solution that has worked since the Second World War, the PAX Americana formula,” said Simion, referring to a new security architecture for Europe and in particular post-war Ukraine.
Instead, he said, NATO countries should do so as Trump demands by increasing their military spending.
“All countries must increase these expenses; I just find your own safety and invest in your own security,” he said.
