Madonna said she had “buried the ax” with Sir Elton John and hinted that she would collaborate with him, after watching the pianist and the singer play with Brandi Carlile in Saturday Night Live (SNL).
The tense relationship dates back to 2002, when John was quoted by CBS News as describing his theme to die another day like “the worst liaison melody of all time”.
He continued by saying “Madonna, best act live? Fuck off “on stage at the Q Awards in 2004, and accused her of synchronization of the lips.
The couple has exchanged a certain number of comments since, but in an article on Instagram on Monday, Madonna, whose full name is Madonna Ciccone, said: “We finally buried the ax of war.”
The singer said that John’s recent appearance on SNL reminded her when she got into her house when she was in high school to see her perform in Detroit, that she described as an “unforgettable” performance that changed the course of her life.
She said: “I always felt like a growing stranger and watching him on stage helped me understand that it was good to be different, to stand out, to hit the road less frequented. In fact, it was essential.
“During the decades, it hurt me to know that someone I admired shared his aversion to me as an artist so much. I didn’t understand it. I was told that Erton John was SNL’s musical guest and I decided to go. ”
Madonna said she had confronted John behind the scenes, where he asked her to forgive him. She said that the couple then embraced and that the pianist told her that he had written a song for her and wanted to collaborate.
John and Carlile interpreted the Bible of Little Richard on SNL of their collaborative album which believes in the angels?
In response to Madonna, John thanked her for having come to see him on SNL and to have forgiven his “big mouth”.
He wrote on Instagram that he was not proud of what he had said, praising his plea for HIV / AIDS in the 1980s and his “revolutionary work” which paved the way for a whole generation of female artists.
He said: “I am grateful that we can move forward. I am more and more distressing by the whole division of our world at the moment.”
John said that he and Madonna had been all accepted and adopted by communities that are threatened all over the world, and that he hoped that “great things happen together” for those who needed support.
