Madhura wins the first rush to the individual gold medal continues for India at the World Cup of Archery Stade 2 – Firstpost

Madhura Dhamangaonkar crowned his dream return event with a superb victory of 139-138 against Carson Krahe in the United States, winning his first gold medal of the individual World Cup at Stade 2 of the World Cup of archery here on Saturday.

Madhura, who is not classified in the archery ranking for not having contributed internationally for three years, followed 81-85 after a cost of seven at the third end.

But the 24 -year -old showed a remarkable pressure calculation, dropping only one point in a flawless fourth end to level the scoring at 110.

In the decision maker, she kept her nerves with two perfect 10 – the two dozen arrows closer to the center – and a 9 to exceed Krahe at a point in an exciting finish.

It was the third medal of the Madhura event, having previously won a money in the female team team and a bronze in the event made up of the mixed team alongside Abhishek Verma, marking a remarkable return to the international arc after three years.

Earlier, the archers of Indian compounds delivered a stellar performance, each winning gold, gold, silver and bronze during team events at the Archery World Cup on Saturday.

The highlight of the rush to the medal was gold won by the male team including Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale and Rishabh Yadav who beat Mexico 232-228 in a tense final.

India began to take a 2-point lead with a 59 flawless 59 at the first end in Mexico 57. The second end saw Mexico fighting with 58, while India succeeded 56 to level the match at 115-115 halfway.

At the third end, India has again advanced with a 58 while Mexico displayed 57, giving the Indians a thin advance of 173-172.

The Indian trio held its nerve at the end end, drawing a superb 59 to seal gold with Mexico by managing only 56.

During the female compound final, Jyothi Surekha Vennam’s team, Madhura Dhamangaonkar and Chikitha Taniparthi won the money after a 221-234 defeat against a strong Mexican team.

It was a unilateral competition, but Indian women proved to be promising throughout the tournament to obtain a podium.

Adding to the count of the medal, the Indian mixed team of Verma and Madhura won bronze, beating Malaysia in a third place with a low score.

Madhura, 24, who had never won a World Cup medal before, made her second appearance in the competition after having returned after three years. His last appearance took place in stadium 4 of the Archery World Cup in 2022 in Medellin.

These results underline the growing depth and consistency of India in archery composed on the world scene.

With the compound archery which will make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles 2028 with a lonely event in the mixed team category, India will envisage its very first archery medal in the Mega Sporting Show.
