Lyft driver kidnapped, drugged and raped by passenger in Alpharetta, police say

A man who was ride-sharing last month was arrested after police say he kidnapped and raped his driver.

Alpharetta Department of Public Safety officers said a woman reported to them that she was driving for Lyft on March 11 when she picked up a man as a passenger.

She said he stole her car, kidnapped her and raped her.

Investigators determined she was also given a sedative during the incident.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Demarcus Johnson. He was arrested April 5 and charged with rape, kidnapping, aggravated assault and theft by kidnapping.

They say they are continuing their investigation.

A Lyft spokesperson shared a statement with Channel 2 Action News confirming that Johnson’s account had been removed from the platform.

“Safety is fundamental to Lyft, and the behavior described is reprehensible and has no place in our community or anywhere in society. We have been in contact with the driver to offer our support. Additionally, the passenger’s account has been permanently removed from the Lyft platform and we have assisted law enforcement in their investigation.
