Lululemon Pulls New ‘Breezethrough’ Leggings After Complaints

Launching a new product was no easy task.

Lululemon’s Breezethrough leggings have been pulled from shelves after a series of customer complaints criticized the new design, which featured a deep V-shaped waistband in the front and a Y-shaped seam in the back.

Following the apparel’s release earlier this month, Lululemon fans flocked to stores to try on the new leggings — billed as seamless in the groin, an exciting innovation for legging wearers — only to be shocked when the form-fitting fabric and butt seams were anything but flattering.

For $98, is the option of bulging muffin tops and thong-like seams worth it because of the lack of camel toe? Women on the internet think not.

Instead of traditional seams, the latest style features a deep V-shaped waistband and thong-like seams in the back, which have been compared to a “whale tail.” TikTokers and YouTubers alike have expressed disappointment with the placement of the seams, complaining that they sit “too high” on their hips and saying that Lululemon “missed the mark.”

“I was hoping the V-shape in the back would be flattering, but it was too aggressive for me. All I could see was a giant whale tail/arrow pointing at my butt crack,” one person complained.

“They really accentuate my muffin top, so this is a return from me,” one customer wrote on the online forum Thursday, warning shoppers not to “bother” with the pants “unless you have a washboard stomach.”

“What were they thinking with a seam in the waistband?” wrote one reviewer.

“These pants deserve sanctions from the United Nations for war crimes. The things they do to people in this subreddit should be punished severely haha,” joked another commenter.

“All I can tell you is IT’S THE PANTS. It’s the pants’ fault. Your bodies are beautiful and amazing, but the pants aren’t.”

A Lululemon spokesperson told Business in Vancouver that they have since stopped selling the Breezethrough leggings to work on their design.

“We have made the decision to suspend sales for the time being in order to make the necessary adjustments to deliver the best possible product experience,” the company said.

“We are excited about Breezethrough’s textile innovation. As a test and learn organization, we also take customer feedback seriously and have the opportunity to incorporate what they have shared into future designs.”

Lululemon ended the trading day at a four-year low on Thursday, Business Insider reported.

The company had already seen declining sales and a stock drop in recent months, citing a shift in customer preferences.
