Suarez scored 34 goals in his two seasons under Diego Simeone – his last appearance seeing Atleti draw at home to Sevilla.

The former Liverpool striker started the game and was taken off in the 64th minute, cheering the fans as he left the pitch.

Taking a seat on the bench, Suarez was then pictured with his training shirt over his face as he began to cry.

Although his departure from Atletico is confirmed, we don’t yet know where the player will ply his trade next season.

Former clubs Barcelona and Ajax have both been linked with a move for the experienced striker this summer.

However, it remains to be seen whether either club could afford his £160,000-a-week wage.

Suarez has also been linked with Aston Villa which would see him reunite with former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard

A report from Spanish publication Fichajes suggested that Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in the player.

Along with Sevilla and Inter Milan, Steven Gerrard’s side are reportedly keen on the Uruguay international as they look to add more goalscoring and trickery to their front line next season.

Gerrard already extended his reunion with a former team-mate last week, with Philippe Coutinho making his loan move to Villa Park permanent.

The deal would have cost Villa around £17million, with the signing representing a major blow for the club.

Is Gerrard reforming Liverpool’s 2013/14 squad?

Should Gerrard be reunited with Suarez as well, there’s no doubting the quality that will be at his disposal.
