Football fans have heavily criticized Luis Enrique for not fielding goalkeeper Keylor Navas for his final home match for PSG.

The French champions won their Ligue 1 title on Sunday while bidding farewell to Kylian Mbappe who announced he would leave the club this summer last week.

Mbappe was playing his final match at the Parc des Princes as a PSG player and was captain of the team beaten 3-1 by Toulouse. He didn’t receive the warmest farewell, he was still congratulated by Enrique.

However, the same cannot be said for Navas. In fact, Enrique didn’t even know that it was the PSG goalkeeper’s last home game.

“I didn’t know it was his last match at the Parc,” Enrique said.

Navas, who signed for the French side in 2019, announced his departure on Instagram before the match.

In a heartwarming statement, he said: “It has been an honor to defend this badge in this incredible stadium.

“There are still goals to achieve, but I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to say goodbye to what has been my home.”

Much to the surprise of most fans, Enrique did not say a final goodbye to Navas on the pitch at Parc des Princes, choosing instead to start 22-year-old Arnau Tenas.

Fans were quick to jump on the PSG boss’s back, on social media app

One posted: “This is just disgusting behavior from Enrique! Navas is such a great GK and deserves more respect!!’

Another wrote: “My god, this response from a coach, so pathetic and really poor.

Some fans even pointed out the fact that Enrique played and managed Barcelona, while Navas spent five years at bitter rivals Real Madrid, even winning La Liga while his current boss was still in charge of the Catalan side .

A Real Madrid fan account said: “Luis Enrique is still sour because Navas owned Europe for three consecutive years with Real Madrid. Same story as when he didn’t name any RM player in the Spanish national team for the first time in its history and then lost badly with his Pedri and Gavi.

And another user wrote: “Barca guy through and through.”

Even though Navas didn’t get the farewell he would have liked, he still accomplished a lot during his time in Paris.

The Costa Rican goalkeeper has won three Ligue 1 titles and played 113 times for the club in all competitions.
