Lucy Dacus on the art of executives (and leaving)

In the clip of “Ankles”, the first single of the fourth studio album by Lucy Dacus, The Singer plays a young lady from the Victorian era in search of pleasure who escaped from a painting in Gallivant around Paris. His aluminum paper is a severe museum guard trying to correct it in its context.

Dacus found the idea as a way to reflect the thrust and draw between curiosity and restraint in the song. In addition, she said: “The song is quite excited, so it’s not like I was going to recreate what is happening.”

For Dacus, executives have become a recurring reason. She used one in a video for a song from her second album, “Historian”, while she was an independent singer-songwriter. And she poses in one on the album cover for her latest LP, “Forever is a feeling”.

“The framing is such a huge part of art,” said Dacus. “What do you put within the limits of the frame?” What do you fill time? What do you put in front of people? “

The form of “Forever is a feeling” appeared when Dacus realized that she was writing songs on love. (Then she wrote more.) It was her first solo album since Boygenius – The Indie -Rock Supergroup that she formed with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker – has become a Grammy and Grammy size group. (Dacus recently revealed that Baker was the subject of one of these love songs.)

In a telephone interview before flying to Paris to perform, Dacus shared the cultural essential which contributes to filling his life. These are extracts published by the conversation.
