LSU QB Colin Hurley hospitalized after car crash in Baton Rouge

LSU backup quarterback Colin Hurley was injured in an accident on campus around 2:45 a.m. Thursday and was found unresponsive.

ESPN reported that the freshman signal caller crashed his Dodge Charger into a tree around 3 a.m. local time and was then taken by EMS and firefighters to a Baton-area hospital Red.

The school told ESPN it could not comment on the incident due to Hurley’s age, 17.

“We are working on appropriate protocols with his family before we can comment,” LSU spokesman Zach Greenwell said, according to the outlet.

“Colin would like to thank the first responders, the incredible doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Health and the many Tiger fans for their care and compassion,” Hurley’s family said in a statement to ESPN. “Colin is resting and stable while further tests and treatment are administered. We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery from this terrible accident.

WBRZ, a local news outlet in Baton Rouge, reported that Hurley was breathing when first responders arrived on scene, but was “in and out of consciousness and (with) a large cut to his face.”

Authorities said Hurley was not suspected of being impaired and the cause of the crash was still under investigation.

Hurley, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., spent 2024 as the third-string quarterback behind Garrett Nussmeier and Michael Van Buren on the Tigers’ depth chart.

He did not make any appearances for LSU this season as a freshman.

Hurley was ranked as the 25th best quarterback in the 2024 class by 247Sports.
