Los Angeles officials expect weather conditions to ‘return to normal’ tonight

Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said in a news conference Thursday that the Eaton Fire remains at 14,117 acres with 55% containment. More than 7,000 structures are damaged or destroyed, he said.

“A limited red flag warning remains in effect until 3 p.m. today for the Santa Susana Mountains, western San Gabriel Mountains and the I-5 corridor,” Marrone said. “We look forward to weather conditions returning to normal this evening.”

“However, a moderate alarm signal is expected for next Monday and Tuesday,” he added.

The deadline for storm-affected businesses to file their taxes has been extended.

“This is the right thing to do – this is how we will build LA Strong again,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in an article on X.

Los Angeles County taxpayers will see the date they must file their California tax returns on their 2024 income delayed until October 15. They will also have until this date to make tax payments due between January 7 and October 15.

As officials answered questions from reporters, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone, said it is still dangerous for people to return home, even for those who want to see the condition of their home for even 15 minutes.

“We just don’t want anyone to come in and it not be safe,” he said.

Sheriff Robert Luna said it could be at least another week before people can return home. “But I think it’s going to be longer than that,” he added.
