Longest Kiss World Record Contest Has Been Halted, Guinness Explains Why

New Delhi:
Did you know that there is a category “World record for the longest kiss”? Guinness World Records deactivated it in 2013 because the competition became too dangerous and some rules conflicted with the record holder’s current and updated policies.
The Guinness World Record rules for the longest kiss were as follows:
– As mentioned by the Guinness World Record, “the kiss should be continuous and the lips should touch at all times.” The couple will be disqualified if the lips part. Competitors are allowed to consume liquids through a straw during the attempt, but the lips must not part.
– It is important that the couple be awake at all times.
– They must stand during the attempt and cannot be supported together by any aid.
– No rest break is allowed.
– Adult diapers/diapers or incontinence pads cannot be worn. The couples were allowed to use the restroom, however, they must remain kissing while doing so.
As rest breaks were not allowed and the record to be broken grew longer and longer, participants were likely to succumb to the dangers of sleep deprivation, such as psychosis, Guinness World Record said.
There had been several instances of contestants suffering the adverse effects of performing the stunt.
In 1999, Israel record holders Karmit Tzubera and Dror Orpaz were “barely conscious” after kissing for 30 hours and 45 minutes. Although they won the competition, they were quickly taken to hospital, where they were treated for fatigue. Karmit and Dror won a trip around the world and $2,500 (2,06,775 rupees) in cash.
One of the contestants – in the 2004 contest – had to be “resuscitated with oxygen”. Andrea Sarti (Italy), 37, kissed his girlfriend, Anna Chen (Thailand) for 31 hours 18 minutes.
In 2011, a woman passed out after just 30 minutes of competition.
The world record for the longest kiss was set by Thai couple Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat in 2013. Their kiss lasted 58 hours 35 minutes. The couple – who previously claimed the record in 2011 – won the grand prize of 100,000 Thai baht (Rs. 23,465) and two diamond rings worth 100,000 baht (Rs. 2.34,650).
The Guinness World Record replaced the longest kiss world record with the longest kiss marathon.
