London Mayor Sadiq Khan wants to host the Super Bowl – POLITICO

“The Super Bowl is really important to us,” he said. “We have a number of American football matches and I want them to take place here because we want American sports fans in Europe to come to London to watch them, not just America.”

The Super Bowl is the final game of each NFL season since 1966. It is usually played on the second Sunday in February and is scheduled to take place in 2025 at the Caesars Superdome in Louisiana.

While London has hosted regular NFL games since 2007, the Super Bowl has never been held outside the United States. Its usual 6:30 p.m. Eastern time start and four-hour duration would see London fans leaving the stadium teary-eyed at 3:30 a.m.

Khan also called for WWE’s WrestleMania, a professional wrestling event celebrating its 40th anniversary, to be held in the UK for the first time.
