MLB players are already sharing their opinions on the Dodgers’ latest addition to their super team.
Giants pitcher Logan Webb visited X Friday night and gave his reaction to Japanese ace Roki Sasaki’s deal with his division rival.
Webb captured his thoughts, not in words, but through a GIF, which showed a clip of the overpowered Monstars squad from the 1996 film “Space Jam.”
The post appeared to be a jab against the Dodgers, who added another star to their team after winning the 2024 World Series.
The 23-year-old announced his decision to join Los Angeles in an Instagram post on Friday, ending the long-awaited draw.
The Athletic later reported that Sasaki’s signing bonus was $6.5 million.
During his four seasons in Japan, Sasaki posted a 2.02 ERA and became one of the most promising foreign talents.
The right-hander was also a member of Team Japan when it won the 2023 World Baseball Classic, playing alongside future Dodgers teammates Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
After hearing offers from 20 different MLB teams, Sasaki narrowed his options to the Dodgers, Padres and Blue Jays, ultimately opting for the defending champions.
Webb’s Giants have made their own acquisitions in free agency, with Willy Adames and Justin Verlander being their two headliners thus far.
To add insult to injury, the Dodgers also stole two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell from the Giants, signing him to a five-year contract in November.
The Giants, who finished 80-82 last season, have a tough road ahead in a loaded NL West, with the Dodgers, Padres and Diamondbacks all competitive.
