In a February 2021 episode of his podcast Empty insidethe iCarly alum told the guest Anna Faris that she decided to quit acting a few years ago and is now focusing on writing and directing opportunities, in addition to hosting the podcast.
“My experience as an actress is: I’m so ashamed of the roles I’ve played in the past,” revealed Jennette, who detailed her experience in her 2022 memoir. I’m glad my mother died. “I’m unhappy with my career in so many ways. I feel so dissatisfied with the roles I’ve played and I felt like it was the cheesiest, most embarrassing. I did the shows I was in from 13 to 21, and at 15, I was already embarrassed. My 15-year-old friends weren’t like, “Oh, cool, you’re on that Nickelodeon show.” It was embarrassing .”
Even if she has not completely ruled out a second act. “I feel like it’s only through writing this book that I’ve gotten to a point where I think there might be a way to explore acting without carrying the baggage that I “carried with me for so long,” she told E! News in October 2022. “Maybe if I write something for myself. I think that might really be one of the only ways for me to try to explore it again.”
