Olivia “Livvy” Dunne couldn’t have been more thrilled to learn that her boyfriend, Pittsburgh Pirates rookie phenom Paul Skenes, was named to the National League All-Star team after just 10 starts in his major league career.

Dunne wanted to surprise Skenes with a little pizza and champagne celebration after the news broke Sunday, as MLB released the pitchers, reserves and full rosters for the All-Star Game, which will be held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on July 16.

The LSU gymnast has posted multiple times on social media about Skenes’ All-Star selection, which made MLB history as he became the first player to be selected No. 1 overall and then earn All-Star honors the following year.

First, Dunne simply shared MLB’s post about Skenes’ selection for the game, captioning it, “He’s an ALL STAR!”

She then revealed in a second Instagram Story that she had prepared a surprise for Skenes: gold letter balloons that spelled out the word “ALL STAR” along with the pizza and champagne on the kitchen counter.

Dunne, wearing a long black dress in her TikTok video, gave a glimpse of the surprise she had in store for Skenes.

Once he got home, he was all smiles at what Dunne had in store for him. The two of them hugged in the kitchen, celebrating another milestone moment in what has been a fantastic start to Skenes’ baseball career.

Skenes, 22, made his MLB debut on May 11 against the Chicago Cubs, when he struck out seven batters in four innings. Since then, he has been one of the best pitchers in baseball, using his electric ability on the mound to generate a 2.12 ERA in 10 starts.

Skenes sports a triple-digit fastball on the radar with dirty, breaking pitches that have troubled hitters in the major leagues as much as he did in college with the Tigers.

Skenes has already struck out 78 batters while allowing just 12 walks in 59.1 innings.

“You really can’t expect that,” Skenes said of his All-Star bid, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I think it’s just a result of being there and putting in the work, that kind of thing. The expectation was definitely to win the national championship when we were there. That was the only thing we wanted to do.”

“But as far as being selected first overall, being called up every time I’ve been called up, and now the All-Star Game, there was no expectation on me. It’s just about doing everything I can and letting other people make the decision for me.”

Both Skenes and Dunne hope this is just the first of many to come, but they’re certainly making the most of this moment, one they surely won’t forget as the All-Star Game approaches next week.
