Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton wanted by RB Leipzig on permanent transfer and could fetch over £20m

Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton is attracting interest from clubs in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and the Premier League.

Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have reportedly registered the highest interest in the 21-year-old midfielder following consecutive seasons on loan in the league.

Morton has spent the last two campaigns on loan in the second tier with Blackburn Rovers and Hull City, making a total of 87 appearances with three goals and nine assists.

The 21-year-old has a total of nine senior appearances for Liverpool, all during the 2021/22 season, with his last game in a Reds shirt coming in March 2022 in the FA Cup.

The Times reports that there is strong interest from “almost every club” in the Championship to take the Liverpool starlet out on loan again this summer.

However, there is every chance the Reds could cash in with Sevilla, Feyenoord, Eintracht Frankfurt and a number of Premier League sides also said to be keen.

His future could lie in the hands of new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who is due to meet the majority of his players when they are introduced to pre-season training in early July.

But the return of transfer guru Michael Edwards could well see the Merseyside club pull off another shrewd deal to help replenish their coffers this summer.

Following the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s departure as manager, former sporting director Edwards has been brought back as Liverpool’s new general director of football.

Edwards’ best work during his previous tenure was undoubtedly selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £142 million, which allowed Klopp to build a team that went on to win Premier League titles and Champions League, as well as a complete collection of national cups, FIFA Club World. UEFA Cup and Super Cup.

But it was with the club’s promising academy players and fringe stars that he also did business, as he helped make Liverpool a fortune with a long list of shrewd sales.

Among that list of smart negotiations was the sale of forwards Danny Ings, Dominic Solanke and Rhian Brewster, goalkeeper Danny Ward and defender Ki-Jana Hoever for a total of £88.5 million.

Liverpool star Andy Robertson reveals the text he received from Jurgen Klopp ahead of Scotland’s opening Euro 2024 match against Germany.

Hoever’s exit to Wolves also saw Diogo Jota move in the other direction, with the deal seeing Liverpool pay around £30million net for the Portuguese star.

The current price for Morton – who signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool only 18 months ago – is unclear.

But with defender Sepp van den Berg valued at £20m, it would be fair to say the Reds wouldn’t let another local talent leave on the cheap.

With Championship clubs eager to sign the England Under-21 international on loan, it appears Leipzig are interested in a permanent move.

Leipzig finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season, securing the Champions League for next campaign, which could influence Morton’s decision on where he wants to play in 2024/25.

The two clubs also enjoy a healthy commercial relationship, having agreed a £60 million deal for Dominik Szoboszlai last summer, while Fabio Carvalho was also loaned to the German club.
