Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson have told talkSPORT that the Liverpool squad ‘don’t talk’ about the treble but believe they can make this a ‘special’ season.
Liverpool are still on course to win four trophies this season, having already lifted the Carabao Cup in February.
A 3-2 win over Manchester City at Wembley last time out took the Reds to another FA Cup final as they are still alive in the Champions League and Premier League.
It is now the longest stay for an English side in all four competitions since Chelsea won both domestic cups under Jose Mourinho in 2007 but failed in the league and in Europe.
Liverpool, however, are riding a wave of momentum, having reduced a 14-point deficit from league leaders Man City to a single point, and have now knocked them out of the FA Cup.
They also host Spanish side Villarreal in the Champions League semi-finals and are three games away from a seventh European Cup.
But Liverpool players aren’t thinking about what could be a historic feat.
talkSPORT host Jim White met two of the Reds’ brightest stars at Wembley, and when Jim asked him: “Dare I mention the word quadruple?”, Van Dijk laughed: “You can mention this that you want !
“I won’t mention it because it’s something we don’t talk about. We hear these things in the media, trying to put even more pressure on ourselves than we already have, but we don’t care to be fair.
“I’m just concentrating on the game ahead of us. Today we got to the final and now the focus will be on recovery and making sure we are ready for Manchester United.
When asked if Liverpool’s recent success was exactly the reason he wanted to join the club, he added: “Of course it’s obvious.
“Liverpool are arguably the biggest club in the world, we play for trophies. We’ve managed to get a few trophies over the last few years, some really good ones, and for me personally, coming back from the injury I had last year, it’s just amazing to still be in all these competitions .
“We already have one ticked off, and I hope we can do it [this season] special, but we’re taking one game at a time.
Robertson is keen to allow fans to dream of bringing home as much silverware as possible and, while he says his teammates don’t think about winning every competition, they think they can win every game they play. .
“We don’t talk about it, we don’t talk about it,” the Scot told talkSPORT. “We believe we can win any game we play.
“If we play at this level that we did in the first half [against City] so we believe we can win games and if we do then of course things start to become possible.
“But we’re just looking at the next game, really, we’ve got Man United next, then Everton and so on, we’ve got so many big games coming up and it’s like we’ve been playing cup finals since January when we started. to retrieve it.
“Let’s see where we end up in May, but we’re focused on the next game, that’s where we need to be. We let our fans dream but we stay focused on the next game.
Liverpool’s opportunities are vast in the remaining weeks of the season, and Robertson was able to take stock of what his side have achieved so far.
He said: “The only thing we dream about is mid-April, towards the end of April and we’re still fighting on all fronts, it’s amazing from the boys.
“Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, it’s been incredible to fight on all fronts, I’ve already won the League Cup and another final and a semi-final in the League of champions, and of course I hope we push Man City all the way.” .
“That’s all we’re happy about, but at the end of the season we want to get our hands on the trophies. We know how difficult it’s going to be and we have to do our best to try to achieve that. .
“I love my journey, the journey I’ve been on, and I love being on this team.
“I belong to this team and I am happy to play in these great occasions.
“You get used to it more but you still get that feeling in your stomach every time you play those big games and today was no different to see the number of Liverpool fans travelling.”
