Jamie Carragher has accused Gary Neville and Roy Keane of “apologizing” to ex-Manchester United teammate and pressured boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Liverpool have said they are “sick” of hearing an apology for United’s lack of success under Solskjaer despite their big expenses and strong squad.
The Red Devils enjoyed a very productive transfer window, acquiring England star Jadon Sancho, World Cup-winning defender Raphael Varane and they also re-signed five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, the season has not started the way Solskjaer would have liked, with Man United already absent from the Carabao Cup and risking not coming out of a relatively easy Champions League group.
There have been calls for Solskjaer, who has been in charge since December 2018, to leave, but Neville and Keane continue to support him.
And it really grinds the gears of Carragher, who suggested Neville and Keane are always looking for something else to blame when trying to find a reason for Man United’s recent lack of silverware.
Speaking of the aptly titled Tony Bellew is Angry podcast, Carragher said, “What made me angry lately? It’s probably something to do with football and probably something to do with Neville, let me think…
“He’s always looking for excuses for his mate Ole, isn’t he?”
“I’m doing a newspaper column and I was with Gary Neville a few days before, we were doing this YouTube chat about the season with Roy Keane, and the two of them apologized for Ole because he played with them and that he’s their mate.
“They kind of say ‘they can’t win the league, they still lack this, they still need this, the Glazers aren’t putting in enough, they should go for Harry Kane…”
“I’m sitting there thinking, ‘you just signed a guy who won the Champions League four times [Ronaldo]!
“You spent £ 75million on a winger [Sancho], you finished second in the Premier League last season, you haven’t lost any away game [in the league]… There is only one place to go!
“Honestly… it just pissed me off and I thought, ‘This is it, I’m doing my newspaper column on this.’
“Ole wasn’t too happy with the column, but I just said it was time for the apologies to end at Manchester United, I’m sick of it.
“It’s always’ they always lack this, they lack that” – every player has £ 50million!
“You go through the whole team, it’s incredible! “
