The Reds have kept just three clean sheets in their last 19 games in all competitions, which comes at a time when title rivals Arsenal have conceded just one goal in five matches.

Speaking ahead of the match on Sky Sports, Paul Merson and Jamie Redknapp highlighted Liverpool’s defensive shortcomings and insisted Klopp needs to address this issue if his side are to compete with Man City and Arsenal.

“Liverpool must start well,” Merson said. “They keep conceding goals. In my opinion, you need clean sheets to win titles.

“Arsenal have not been behind since the start of the year. City keep playing, they believe so much in their abilities.

Liverpool fans expressed frustration at their record, while supporters of their rivals mocked them.

Redknapp added: “Arteta has four centre-backs at the back. This seems to have stabilized the team. They didn’t expect what happened last season. This year, Arteta knows they are ready.

“I remember the pressure, sometimes the crowd is a little anxious. If Liverpool win, it will put a little more pressure on Arsenal. Can Liverpool get three points today?
