Liverpool took a step closer to his second Premier League title on Wednesday with a 1-0 victory against Everton in the Merseyside derby.
The Toffees frustrated the side of Arne for the duration of the first half and almost took the lead when Beto rocked the woodwork, heading at the break.
But Liverpool found a path through Diogo Jota just before the hour brand and made a solid defensive display to avoid a rehearsal of the last Merseyside derby in February, when James Tarkowski equalized to death to claim a 2-2 draw.
Lewis Steele of Mail Sport was in Anfield to assess the performances of the players after another crucial victory for Liverpool.
Liverpool (4-3-3)
Caoimhin Kelleher – 6.5

The victory brings the Liverpool side of Arne Slot a step near his second title of the Premier League
Curtis Jones – 7
A scorp on the right back after all! Jones has made a wonderful display, often bombing attacks and starting.
Ibrahima Konate – 6
Difficult night against Beto’s tagged presence.
Virgil van Dijk – 5.5
Beaten too easily by Beto a few times in the first half, but was seen by barking orders to his teammates in an even more regular model than usual.
Andy Robertson – 7
Large challenges in the first half have shown that the Scottish has enjoyed its derby experience. Would have wanted to do more in an offensive sense but a good performance.
Ryan Gravenberch – 7.5
Has been criticized in recent weeks for the first time this season. But it was Gravenberch to his best. Always available for the ball and has also done important work on a defensive level.
Alexis Mac Allister – 7
Often rented for his work on the ball, but the most pleasant here was his contributions, with challenges and fleshy interceptions.
Mohamed Salah – 7
Was at the center of everything that is good for Liverpool, but was missing from this last pass or at this time.

It was a big night for Caoimhin Kelleher (above), who delivered after Alisson was excluded

Ryan Gravenberch was back to his best in the midfield after a richness of criticism in recent weeks

Mohamed Salah was at the center of all that is good for Liverpool but did not have the final product
Dominik Szoboszlai – 6.5
A live and energetic presence as always that never stops running and tries to cajolate the kop.
Luis Diaz – 6.5
It was a danger all evening with slalom races, but perhaps the final ball was missing.
Diogo Jota – 7.5 Motm
Ended a period of drought of 10 club games with a prolific strike after having a sparkle after some attempts at challenges. This is why many think that he is the best finisher in Liverpool.

Cut a frustrated figure during the best part of the hour, but put the faith in the XI, it was also faithful and, in the end, they reimbursed it.

Everton (4-2-3-1)
Jordan Pickford – 6.5
Had little to do in the first half, certain regulations stop him directly. Could do little about Jota’s goal.
Jake O’Brien – 6
Love this race every minute in the team and did a good job against delicate Diaz.
James Tarkowski – 7.5 (reserved)
Could easily have been sent for a beating tackle on Mac Allister. Has do warrior type interventions, however, in a stellar screen.
Jarrad Branthwaite – 7.5
Made important blocks such as that on Jota after 11 minutes and a courageous head to prevent a bounce from Salah just after the break.
Vitalii Mykolenko – 6
Keeped Salah largely silent throughout. I couldn’t go enough.
Idrissa Gana Gueye – 6.5
Brushed and put an important change out of the ball. The Liverpool midfielder was often second to losing bullets.

Despite the maintenance of Mohamed Salah largely silent, Vitalii Mykolenko could not go ahead

James Tarkowski had the chance not to be sent after his challenge on Alexis Mac Allister

Has both silk and steel and is an integral part of the Moyes midfielder.
Jack Harrison – 4.5
An unnecessary and frustrating night. Would have wanted to do better with several counterattacks that he led.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5.5
Could have done better after the break when he had the ball in the penalty area. Well linked to Beto.
Carlos Alcaraz – 6
Beautiful races on the left wing but did not have its usual creative impact on the game.
Beto – 6.5 (reserved)
If he was packing his shooting boots, he could have had a hat -trick. The greatest chance of the first half was wasted when he went to the goal but hit the post. Had the best of Van Dijk.

Unfortunately for Everton, Carlos Alcaraz did not have his usual creative impact on the game

The winger Jack Harrison endured an unnecessary and frustrating night on the sides for the Toffees

Would have celebrated a famous victory perhaps if Beto could better finish in the first half. His team was well installed but ultimately defeated by a class moment by Jota.
