Liverpool continued his march towards the title of the Premier League with a 1-0 victory against Everton in a disjointed Merseyside derby while Diogo Jota violated the winner in the second half on Wednesday.
The elected champions, with 73 points after 30 games, restored their 12 -point lead on Arsenal, second place, while Everton, including the undefeated nine game league, is 15th on 34 points.
Everton’s Beto had an early goal for the offside and missed a guard before Jota broke the dead end in the 57th minute with his first goal in two and a half months. Anfield broke out when Luis Díaz has the ball back on the way to Jota and the Portugal striker beat a tackle before shooting the net.
Liverpool fans thought Everton should have been reduced to 10 men after 11 minutes after a fierce tackle by defender James Tarkowski on Alexis Mac Allister, but Everton captain was only shown yellow.
The teams had met in an explosive derby in February which ended 2-2, with Tarkowski equalizing in the depths of the downtime in a chaotic game which had four red cards, including one to the manager of Liverpool Arne Slot.
While Liverpool is undefeated in 26 championship games, they entered the international break last month on a negative note after being eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and losing against Newcastle United during the final of the League Cup.
