The alliance of President Trump and Elon Musk dissolved in an acrimony open Thursday, while the two men launched themselves by the two personal attacks after the billionaire triggered widths against the bill on the interior policy of the president.
“I am very disappointed by Elon,” said Trump. “I helped Elon a lot.
While the president criticized Mr. Musk, the billionaire responded in real time on X, the social media platform he has.
“Without me, Trump would have lost the elections, the DEMS would control the room and the Republicans are 51 to 49 years old in the Senate,” wrote Musk.
“Such ingratitude,” he added, taking the credit of Mr. Trump’s election in a way he has never had before.
Mr. Musk had been careful in recent days to form his anger at the Republicans in the Congress, not Mr. Trump himself. But he rejected this caution on Thursday, ridiculing the president in a model familiar to the many advisers of previous Trump who fell by the way.
This started as a simple fight against the bill on domestic policy has increased sharply in just a few hours. A few minutes from each other, Mr. Trump made fun of Mr. Musk’s reluctance to make up to cover a recent eye with black butter, and Mr. Musk was raising questions about the competence of Mr. Trump as president.
The public break comes after a remarkable partnership between the two men. Mr. Musk deployed hundreds of millions of dollars to support Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign in 2024. After Mr. Trump won, he gave Mr. Musk Free Rein to reduce the federal workforce.
And last week, Trump gave Mr. Musk a Personal sending in the oval office. The president praised Musk as “one of the greatest business leaders and innovatives that the world has ever produced” and gave him a golden key sporting the badge of the White House. Mr. Musk promised to remain a “friend and advisor to the president”.
But now, Mr. Musk, who has left his temporary role, has become the most eminent critic of a major presidential priority.
Mr. Musk denounced the dear-scale policy on policy in many positions on X. He described it as “disgusting abomination”, argued that the bill would cancel all the work it has done to reduce public spending and suggested that it would target the republican members of the Congress who supported the legislation in the mid-term elections next year.
Trump said Thursday that Mr. Musk’s criticism of the bill was entirely interested, claiming that he only opposed the legislation after the Republicans withdrew the mandate of the electric vehicle, which would benefit Tesla, the Musk electric vehicle company. (Mr. Musk previously called for the end of these subsidies.)
The president also minimized Mr. Musk’s financial support for him during the campaign, arguing that he would have won the Pennsylvania without Mr. Musk, who paid a large part of his money and his time in the critical state of the battlefield.
Mr. Musk also refuted Thursday’s declaration of Mr. Trump according to which Mr. Musk “knew the interior functioning of the bill better than anyone sitting here”.
“False, this bill has never been shown to me only once and was adopted in death so quickly that almost no one in Congress could not read it!” Mr. Musk wrote, sharing a video of Mr. Trump saying that he was disappointed with Mr. Musk.
