Live updates, time, stream and more
All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling will host their third annual Forbidden Door show in Elmont, New York this Sunday. But this year’s event could be the biggest yet, with wrestlers representing AEW, NJPW, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre and World Wonder Ring Stardom all taking part in the massive spectacle.
Of course, the biggest match of the night will be a showdown between AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland and AEW International Champion Will Ospreay. However, other intriguing matches to watch out for include the six-way match for the vacant TNT title, Jon Moxley vs. Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, and the AEW Women’s World Championship match between Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa.
Follow us live as we provide up-to-the-minute updates on the event.
Mistico and The Lucha Bros draw “Holy S**t” chants
Forbidden Door has become known for its ability to create dream matchups that fans never thought they would see. It was one of those matchups, and before the fight even started, the fans in attendance were chanting “Holy s**t” in response to Mistico’s entrance.
Saraya v. Mariah May
It was Mariah May who kicked off the quarterfinals of the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament. Saraya looked out of sorts and completely lethargic until a hair pull brought Mariah May’s face into the ring. It was enough of a dynamic shift to bring some intrigue to a waning match.
Mariah May, feeling comfortable with all parts of the ring, had her face sandwiched between Saraya’s top and foot. But that preceded a headbutt that evened the playing field: Each wrestler then traded blows for what seemed like hours.
Toni Storm makes an appearance in a match where it was all about distractions. Just a second before a brutal defeat, Mariah May found the rope and that was enough to get things going. This mistake would haunt Saraya, who moments later lost to a reinvigorated Maria May.
Kris Statlander-Momo Watanabe vs. Willow Nightingale-Tam Nakano
A perfect appetizer to what we’ll have in Forbidden Door, this tag team barrage was as impactful as you would have hoped; there was a nice amount of cold-blooded savagery between Statlander and Nightengale, giving the match enough emotion to keep us riveted.
Of the four, was there anyone who went through a more intense emotional and physical roller coaster than Tam Nakano? She found herself on the wrong side of the canvas many times in this fight, but in the end, she found her moment and brought Momo Watanabe down with an emotional exclamation.
House of Black manages Fatal Four-Way
At first, there wasn’t much four-way action in the center of the ring. Most often the match consisted of just two men exchanging blows, but as the match progressed the more intense it became.
Private Party was the first team to have a chance to win, with Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen landing multiple hits on Gabe Kidd. Kassidy’s attempt on Kidd, however, fell short.
Shortly after, Kidd and Strong got into a small brawl while attempting to defeat Kyle O’Reilly. This feud was all O’Reilly needed to escape and join Tomohiro Ishii, who went on to knock out several other fighters. Ultimately, Ishii would have the opportunity to win with a pin over Brody King, but Quen broke it up.
Ishii continued to impress throughout the match, taking hit after hit, but never gave up after a huge hit from Kidd. But in the end, Ishii couldn’t secure the victory for his team. It was ultimately the House of Black, and more specifically Brody King, who beat Isiah Kennedy for the win.
Serpentico vs. Kyle Fletcher Kicks Off Pre-Show Matches
Kyle Fletcher, who is not a huge fan of lucha libre, wasted no time in trying to rip Serpentico’s mask off in this fight. Flethcer was on a two-fight losing streak heading into this match and was in desperate need of a win. He came out of the gates storming and even when he had opportunities to take down Serpentico, he continued to play with his food.
Normally, one would expect this to lead to a humiliating defeat for Fletcher, but that’s not what happened. It was a tough, non-stop domination from Fletcher, which led to a much-needed victory in less than five minutes.
