British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Sunday called the release of a British-Israeli woman and two other hostages “wonderful and long-awaited news.”
He also warned that the world must not forget those still held captive by Hamas militants.
Emily Damari, 28, who has dual British and Israeli nationality, was one of three female hostages freed on Sunday. His mother, Mandy, released a statement of thanks to his supporters “who have never stopped saying his name.”
“After 471 days, Emily is finally home,” her mother said.
Starmer said that despite the news, Sunday also “represents another day of suffering for those who have not yet returned home”.
“While this ceasefire agreement is to be welcomed, we must not forget those who remain in captivity under Hamas,” he said. “We must now see the remaining phases of the ceasefire agreement implemented in full and on time, including the release of remaining hostages and an influx of humanitarian aid into Gaza. »
